Year 7 Kew Gardens Visit
October was the month for artists at Kew so with this in mind, Year 7 artists took some time out with the Art Department to see the real beauty of autumn in the most beautiful of surroundings at Kew Gardens. Not only were we surrounded by the beauty of nature in its most majestic show of the year, but also sculptural artists from across the world had added their own personal touch, with the most delightful and surprising sculptures hidden and revealed around the site. In art at Key Stage 3, students focus each term on a different element of art. At the beginning of the Autumn Term, Year 7 are focusing on colour and nature, so what more fitting surroundings could they get the opportunity to see all of this wonder in one place. The students had the most amazing full day’s sketching and photographing from inside the tropical hot houses, outside on the treetop walks and in landscaped grounds. How lucky are we to have this all only a short drive from school. All of the students have been able to create a sketchbook of their visit, which will then support them in school in creating their Matisse-inspired cut-outs.
